- The Agates won 15
straight games during a two season stretch in 1976-1977.
- Anthony Christensen twice
rushed for over 400 yards in a single game. In 2004, Christensen
ran for 409 yards versus Deer River, and in 2005 Anthony rushed for 406
yards versus Eveleth-Gilbert.
- Roy Levitt rushed for 329
yards in one game (versus Eveleth-Gilbert -- October 10, 2003).
- Scott MacDonald (THHS
Class of '71) attended West Virginia on a basketball scholarship, then
played football for the Mountaineers during his senior year. As a
tight end, MacDonald played in the 1975 Peach Bowl, where his coach
Bobby Bowden went up against Lou Holtz's North Carolina State
squad. Late in the 4th quarter, with his team behind, MacDonald
caught a tipped pass at
midfield, and raced 50 yards for the winning touchdown. Among the
NC State defenders chasing MacDonald was linebacker Bill Cowher, now
the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers. It has been
called one of the more memorable games in the history of the Peach Bowl.
- Chuck Halsted's all time
high school coaching record was 175-68-4 (.709 winning

- After an
outstanding career as a fullback and middle linebacker for the Agates,
Boyd Hanson
(Class of '78) went on to play college football at UMD. As a
Bulldog, Hanson remains first in career rushing touchdown (36) and
total touchdowns (40) while being fifth on the career rushing list.
- Anthony Christensen holds
the single season rushing record for the Agates, as he rushed for 2,709
yards during the 2005 season.
- Jesse Lundgren rushed for
nearly
1,800 yards during the 1991 season.
- Anthony Christensen rushed
for 5,146 yards during his Agates career (2003-2005) and scored 64
total touchdowns.
- During the 1976 season,
the Agate defense was among the best in the state. The Agates
allowed only 61 points in 9 games (6.8 per game), which included 4
shutouts.
- Doug Norlander (Class of
'81) played fullback and punted for the Out-State team during the
Minnesota State High School All-Star Game at Parade Stadium in July of
1981.
- Lute Olson, Hall of Fame
college basketball coach, was hired by THHS in 1957 as head basketball
and assistant football coach. Chuck Halsted, then athletic
director and head football coach for the Agates, had seen Lute play at
Grand Forks (ND) Central High, and liked the coaching potential he
saw. Halsted recommended to the superintendent that Olson be
hired. Olson was at Two Harbors until 1961, when he left for a
job in Colorado.
- Prior to 1972, Minnesota
did not have a state high school football tournament. Teams would
play their regular season games, and the season would end.
- In the mid-late 70's, the
Seaway Conference (which THHS was a part of) champions would play the
Iron Range Conference champions in a post season game, dubbed the Iron
Bowl.
